Welcome to the website of the

East Bracklesham Drive Road Association.

Take a trip down our road!

Why does the Road Association exist?

Because East Bracklesham Drive is an unadopted road, or in other words a ‘Private Road’. This means that although we pay our rates, we the owners are totally responsible for the upkeep of the road.

Being a Private road, we are not under the Highways Act which governs things like lighting, signage, drainage and speed-humps; but are still covered by the Highways Regulations that cover drunk driving, driving without insurance, dangerous driving. As residents we are obligated to maintain the road so that it is safe for residents & emergency vehicles.

The Road Committee was formed over 12 years ago and is made up of residents elected by the Property Owners to get the necessary jobs done.

The primary functions of the committee are:

1. To maintain the surface of the road without losing its rustic charm

2. To ensure the road is safe in terms of lighting, speeding, flooding etc

3. To maintain the privacy of EBD and to discourage public parking.

Every 5-10 years, the road needs complete resurfacing to prevent it from deteriorating into a moon-scape. This together with repairing broken edges and potholes costs about £30,000 and for this reason, we ask Property Owners to contribute £50 per year to build up funds for this. That's less than one pound a week!

We estimate that maintaining the road adds about 10% to Property values too.

We thought an easy to access website would be a very good forum for passing information quickly.  And an opportunity to share some of the photos and rich history of the road.
